BIO (~1986)

Kalle Grundel was a pilot in the Swedish Air Force before his career as a rally driver. In 1972, he debuted in the sport and his first appearance in the World Rally Championship came in 1977 at his home event in Sweden. During the eighties, he began to compete with a factory-backed Group A Volkswagen Golf GTI often achieving top ten results.

In 1985, Grundel became the West Germany Rally Champion, driving a Peugeot 205 Turbo 16. He also made some appearances for the French team in the WRC championship, with a fifth place in Finland as his best result.

In the 1986 season, he was alongside Swede compatriot Stig Blomqvist as one of the drivers in the new Group B project Ford RS200. During the debut event of the car in Sweden, Grundel clinched an encouraging third place, which would become the best result of the car in the championship. However, since Group B was cancelled for the end of the season, both Grundel and the Ford RS200 would not get another chance to shine. He also made a one-off performance for the Lancia team that same year.
